Baptism

We are excited that you are considering the sacrament of Baptism. Baptism is a powerful sacrament that washes away original sin and its effects. It gives us a new identity as adopted children of God, connects us to a new community of believers, initiates us into a new way of living and provides a clear mission in life as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Being the first of seven sacraments, Baptism is the entrance into the Catholic faith and often called “The door to the Church.” Children six years old and under are received through infant baptism. Those seven and older are received through the Order of Christian Initiation.

“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua) and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: ‘Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.'”  – Catechism of the Catholic Church 1213

Congratulations! We rejoice at the birth (or coming birth) of your child and that you desire they be born into God's family through the sacrament of Baptism.

To have your baby baptized:

  1. Please fill out the 0-6 years old baptismal info form below (see "0-6 years old baptism form")

  2. Please sign up to attend a baptism class (if required*) OR send appropriate* completion certificate to kolbe@saintvincents.org

  3. Watch the Godparent Video: Watch here

    • Note: This video counts for the baptism class for godparents noted on the form below. It only counts for godparents

  4. Have the godparents watch the godparent video

  5. Fill out the Godparent Form (click here for PDF)

  6. Send the completed Godparent Form to kolbe@saintvincents.org, along with potential dates ideally at least 2 months out that you would like to have your baptism (we usually do them on Saturdays at 10:00 or 3:45). Your potential date must be confirmed with the deacons and the office. Our deacons are subject to limited availability, so please do not make plans until we get a date and time nailed down!

  7. Wait for one of us to confirm a date with you (feel free to follow up if you don't hear back for awhile!)

  8. Once the date is confirmed, come to the baptistry in the church for your baptism!

  9. You should receive a baptismal certificate at the baptism. If you do not receive one, please reach out to kolbe@saintvincents.org and we will send you one in the mail. This certificate is important to keep on record for the reception of other sacraments, such as first communion, confirmation, and marriage.

Here is a checklist (click here) to help you complete this process!

Thank you! Please see the FAQs below, and reach out to kolbe@saintvincents.org if you have any additional questions.

*Baptism classes are required only for those who have not completed one in the last 4 years. If you have completed your baptism class in the past 4 years, please send a copy of your certificate to kolbe@saintvincents.org
