St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

Feast Days: October 16
Time Period: 1647 - 1690
Place: France
Patronage: Those suffering with Polio, Loss of parents, Devotees to the Sacred Heart

From early childhood Margaret showed intense love for the Blessed Sacrament and preferred silence and prayer to child games. At the age of nine paralysis confined her to a bed for four years. At the end of this time Margaret consecrated herself to the Blessed Virgin and was restored to perfect health. In 1672 Margaret made her final vows at the Visitation Convent at Paray. The crucified Lord appeared to her frequently and confided in Margaret her mission to establish the devotion to His Sacred Heart. Although her community criticized her and the superiors commanded her to live a ‘common’ life, through obedience, humility and charity towards those who persecuted her, Margaret’s mission was finally recognized through the First Friday Devotion to the Sacred Heart. Christ chose Margaret to deliver His message of ardent love, mercy, sanctification and salvation offered for all mankind.

I need nothing but God, and to lose myself in the heart of Jesus.
