Francis Cabrini dreamed of being a missionary to China. She dressed her dolls as nuns and pretendedher paper boats manned by violets were floating offto foreign lands. She did become a missionary but not to China. After founding the Missionaries of theSacred Heart she came to New York to help Italianimmigrants. Obstacles constantly blocked her pathbut she forged on establishing foundations in New Orleans, Chicago and a summer camp for orphans in Colorado. By the time of St. Cabrini’s death, through the practice of charity and determination, fifteen hundred women working in eight countries wereproviding education, nursing and care for orphans.

Lord, you are the one who acts. I am not even an instrument in your hands, as others say. You alone are the one who does all, and I am nothing more than a spectator of the great and wonderful works that you know how to accomplish.
