St. Catherine LaBoure entered the community of the Sisters of Charity after she received a vision in which St. Vincent de Paul told her that God wanted her to work with the sick. In 1830 the Virgin Mary appeared to her three times. Mary told her how to act during the coming trials and entrusted her with a mission which would cause her great suffering. Mary showed St. Catherine the “Miraculous Medal” and told her to spread devotion to this medal. Mary said, “All who wear them will receive great graces.” St. Catherine’s body lies in state in the chapel Rue du Bac 140, the same place Mary appeared to her.

Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will. (Psalm 39:8)
