Blessed Anna Maria Taigi

Feast Days: June 9
Time Period: 1769-1837
Place: Italy
Patronage: Victims of verbal spouse abuse

Anna Maria Taigi was married for 48 years and the mother of seven children, two of whom died very young. Domestic life was not always peaceful and Anne was known to have had an adulterous affair. But, one day while at prayer, she felt a sudden strong inspiration to ignore the things of this world. She began listening to the Holy Spirit, found holy spiritual directors, gave to the poor, visited the sick and worked to evangelize her own family. Anna Maria was devoted to prayer and received mystical gifts including prophecy and clairvoyance. By her simple presence she helped convert many souls. She was a counselor to cardinals, royalty and three popes. Anna Maria Taigi died June 9 1837 of natural causes. Her body is incorrupt and interred at St. Crisogono Church, Rome, Italy

Her sense of the presence of God was continual …All pain was sweet to her…She went her way, her feet all bloody; with shining eyes she followed the Royal way. (Louis Veuillot, “The Frangrance of Rome”)
