The Lord invites each of us into vocation, and it is through prayer and discernment that we hear God’s invitation for our lives. Marriage is the beautiful vocation of a man and a woman coming together as husband and wife. “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh” (Mark 10:7-8). When the Catholic Church teaches that marriage is a Christian vocation it is saying that the couple’s relationship is not just their choice to enter into a social and legal institution. Marriage involves a call from God and a response from two people who promise to build, with the help of divine grace, a lifelong, intimate and sacramental partnership of love and life. However, what begins as attraction must deepen into conviction and commitment. Those who are called to the married life should be ready to learn what their vocation means and to strive toward the virtues and skills needed for a happy and holy marriage. St. Thomas More Parish forms couples through marriage preparation. After the wedding we continue to provide opportunities for couples and families to support and strengthen their marriage and family life.
