Second graders should have about twenty-thirty minutes of homework each night Monday through Thursday.  Homework books are kept at home and pages are torn out, completed, and turned in according to the assignment given on Monday.  Spelling tests are on Thursday and Friday.

In addition to this written work, students should be reading books of their own choice 10-15 minutes nightly.  This reading is documented on the monthly reading calendar. In second grade this reading is extremely important!

Students are expected to be practicing addition and subtraction facts, sums up to twenty. Flashcards, computer programs, and on-line quizzes are some ways to drill math facts.

Parents should check the assignment pad nightly and initial it.  This develops a sense of responsibility and gives important reminders about upcoming activities.
