Young AmeriTowne

Young AmeriTowne is an award winning educational program to help teach students about business, economics and free enterprise in a fun and hands-on way.

The Young AmeriTowne curriculum introduces concepts such as supply and demand, job skills and work habits, banking procedures, democratic process, civic consciousness, and career awareness.  These lessons prepare students for the culminating experience, a day in “Young AmeriTowne,” where they will physically apply concepts they’ve learned by working together to operate a 17-business town.

When the students arrive at the Young Americans Center (a 5,000 square foot mini-town) on the day of their field trip, they will “run” Young AmeriTowne and will assume positions as Mayor, Accountant, Service Technicians, Policeperson, Newspaper Editor and more.

On that date a ribbon-cutting ceremony and swearing in of elected government leaders will mark the official Towne opening.  The students-turned citizens will rush off to work in the positions they were interviewed and “hired” for, working together with their co-workers to successfully run their businesses.

This life-like simulation is an incredible learning experience for all the students, that not only will teach economic concepts, but life long valuable skills that they can use for many years to come.

The program is taught weekly as a sixth grade elective.  Denise May, Dorothy Musco, Raphaella Pilkington, and Linda Staples are the Young AmeriTowne trained parent volunteers running this program.  If you have any questions or would like to help out please contact Denise May through the school office.
