Fulfilling the Great Commandments

by Barbara Oliverio

It is a rare organization that has no initiation fee, no dues, and no special qualifications to join, but the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is just such an organization.

Vincentians—as members are called—join the group with a desire to assist the needy in the community in any way possible.

“We’re there to give a hand up rather than a hand out,” explains Tim Jeske, president of the STM conference of the Society.

Angel Tree inspires Generosity

During the weekend of November 21 and 22, STM parishioners signed up to purchase 950 gifts for the Denver area children of mothers and fathers in prison and for teenagers at the Denver Children's Home, Mount St. Vincent Home and Emily Griffith Home. Co-coordinator Dick Rapp said, "Thank God for our very generous STM parishioners over the last 23 years of sharing with needy children through the Angel Tree program."
