Jesus Christ himself gave us the mandate to "go and make disciples." So it is fitting that Jesus is at the top and center of our evangelizing activity, "preaching his name, his teaching, his life, his promises and the Kingdom which he has gained for us by his Paschal Mystery. (Ecclesia in America, 246)
The organizational chart recognizes and affirms our incorporation within the Mystical Body of Christ in the Archdiocese of Denver and the Universal Roman Catholic Church. Indeed, there is continuity from Jesus Christ to the apostles and the priests down to all the faithful. As Jesus says in the Gospel of John, "As you (Father) sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. " Jn 17:18
The pastor must be a "sign of communion with the Bishop, since he is the Bishop's immediate collaborator with the faithful, in union with his brothers in the priesthood. With pastoral charity, he exercises his ministry, chiefly in the community entrusted to him and he leads his community to encounter Christ the Good Shepherd." The pastor, is priest, prophet and king - sanctifying, teaching and governing. The pastor is supported in his work by parochial vicars: and permanent deacons.
Likewise, the pastor is assisted by two parish councils and the parish staff. The Finance Council assists him on financial matters and stewardship of parish resources. The Pastoral Council assists him in the pastoral development of the parish according to the norms of Canon law. Meanwhile, a dedicated parish staff assists him in teaching, sanctifying and governing the parish.
"As participators in the function of Christ: priest, prophet and king, the laity have an active part of their own in the life and action of the Church. Their action within the Church communities is so necessary that without it the apostolate of the pastors will frequently be unable to obtain its full effect. (Decree of the Apostolate of the Laity, 10)
Keeping in mind that "evangelization is for no one an isolated act; it is one that is deeply ecclesial, because he must always evangelize in communion with the Church and her Shepherd." (EN, no. 60) The Pastoral Council created several commissions to carry out the apostolate work of the Church at St. Thomas More.
St. Paul said, "If I preach the Gospel, I have no reason to boast. It is my duty: woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel." Indeed, St. Thomas More Parish has been blessed, and as a community of disciples of Jesus Christ," our duty to evangelize is an obligation of love, for the "love of Christ impels us." (2 Cor 5:14)
Using the US Catholic Bishops publication, "Go and Make Disciples," St. Thomas More's parish leaders developed a unique set of goals and objectives to carry out the parish mission to evangelize. The leaders chose three goals: Share our faith, invite all people, and foster Gospel values. Under each goal were a number of objectives culturally sensitive to the faithful of St. Thomas More.
