Welcome to Liturgy Music
Purpose:
To assist the assembled believers to express and share the gift of faith that is within them by encouraging the sung prayer of the assembly.
Activities:
Choirs, cantors, accompanists and instrumentalists provide music which adds to communal worship and sets an appropriate tone for a particular celebration.
Choirs are:
Caritas (Sun. 10:30 a.m., summer off)
C.H.A.L.I.C.E. (Sat. 4:00 p.m.)
Cherubim Children (various)
Knights of Columbus Men (Sun. 8:30 a.m., 3rd Sun.)
Magnificat Women (Sun. 8:30 a.m., all except 3rd Sun.)
Pierced (Sun. 5:30 p.m. LIFE TEEN)
Resurrection (Funerals when requested)
Youth (Sun. 5:30 p.m. LIFE TEEN)
The primary role of the organist/pianist and other instrumentalists is to lead and sustain the singing of the assembly and of the choir, cantor, and psalmist, without dominating or overpowering them.
Cantors lead the assembly in song when a choir is not present.
Instrumentalists (woodwind brass. strings, percussion) enhance the music provided by a choir or cantor.
Meetings:
Each group rehearses on a different day at the church. Workshops are provided for cantors and accompanists to grow in skills and share knowledge. Mornings of reflection are provided for the spiritual growth of all pastoral musicians.
